TOKYO/WASHINGTON: Japan's Takata Corp , the firm at the center of the auto industry's biggest ever product recall, filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States and Japan, and said it had agreed to be largely acquired for $1.6 billion by the Chinese-owned U.S.-based Key Safety Systems.

TOKYO: Japan's Takata Corp, the firm at the centre of the auto industry's biggest ever product recall, will file for bankruptcy protection in Japan on Monday with liabilities of more than 1 trillion yen (US$9 billion), a source said.
