Eat up and never waste food

THE call by the Malaysia Consumers Movement president in his letter, “Stop food waste” (The Star, Dec 24), should be heeded. In Malaysia, we are fortunate not to experience famine caused by natural disasters or calamities. Therefore if we waste food by throwing it away or not finishing it, we are doing a great disservice to Mother Nature.

On the survey figure of 16,688 tonnes of food being wasted daily, it is believed that the bulk of it comes from major hotel chains that disallow “takeaways of unfinished food at the end of wedding dinners” to protect the management against being sued for food poisoning.
