Look neither East nor West

I HAVE been an admirer of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s so-called Look East Policy for quite some time. As a matter of fact, a large number of individuals in my personal network are of Japanese or Korean origin. This network includes those working in both small and large corporations, civil servants and personal contacts based in Malaysia.

As much as I admire how their countries rose from the ashes of war to become one of the most developed nations in the world, much like our country, they do have their shortcomings as well. As we move forward into a new Malaysia, I am beginning to wonder – should we really look East (again)?
