I FELT nostalgic when I saw the article by Rena Lim with the picture showing people enjoying porridge the “Asian Squat” way (Oct 20).

It reminded me of my late mother’s saying, that in the olden days this was the way people sat down for lunch or dinner. Normally, it was the head of the family (the father) and sons who squatted. The mother and daughters would sit on chairs.
