Prioritise other steps to reform the judiciary

I REFER to news reports that the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law) Datuk Liew Vui Keong announced that the government intends to raise the age of mandatory retirement of judges in Malaysia from the current 65 to 70.

This proposal requires an amendment to Article 125 of the Federal Constitution. Any amendment to the Federal Constitution must receive the support of a minimum of two-thirds of the members of Parliament in both the Dewan Rakyat and the Dewan Negara.
