I HAVE to admit that I am glad to see the results of the recent KRI report which shows that despite going to school for an average of 12 years, students get only about nine years’ worth of meaningful education. The study has jolted many from their deep slumber. Educationists are once again voicing their unhappiness over the system which has brought us to this point, as highlighted in the article, “We need a complete overhaul of our education system, says NUTP” (The Star, Oct 18).
We are aware of the long list of ‘blunders’ in the education system which have caught the limelight frequently enough. Every piece of complaint made and opinion shared is a manifestation of bottled up frustration which is long overdue. Over the years, grievances have been shared through various platforms only to be brushed aside by the relevant authorities. Rarely do we see responses to address or clarify the grouses, which in my opinion, demonstrates utter lack of professionalism.
