HEAR, hear indeed to Sunday Star Says “Let’s hear it for the boys” (Nation, June 17). The role of fathers is becoming increasingly important given all the distractions in society. With Fathers Day just yesterday, let us be reminded that being a father does not merely mean buying the child clothes or shoes, or just providing money.
A father’s involvement brings comfort, confidence, strength, balance and stability, and the time spent with a child cannot be calculated in strictly monetary terms. Children seek meaningful interaction, moral and emotional support, and are constantly looking for someone to believe in them. The simple practical wisdom fathers and uncles can provide kids is more important than ever nowadays.
