When euthanasia is a better option

REFERRING to the StarMetro report “Injured dogs from MDDB safe from euthanasia” (April 7), the Malaysian Animal-Assisted Therapy for the Disabled and Elderly Association would like to point out that the headline is misleading and appears to demonise the true purpose and value of the act of euthanasia on an animal.

“Euthanasia” literally means “good death” as the animal is put down within just two or three seconds by a qualified veterinary doctor to end its suffering. It is administered not only on animals suffering from end-stage cancer and other incurable diseases but also in other instances.
