Situation calls for sterner measures


EFFECTIVE and innovative tobacco control measures are urgently required to address the national smoking prevalence which has been stagnant at around 23% for the past three decades, and the increase in the number of underage smokers.

Increase the legal age limit for smoking. The National Anti-drugs Agency says more than 90% of drug users were introduced to the habit through smoking. Thus, the Government has to immediately review its decision on e-cigarette/vape devices as evidence shows these devices are also gateways to smoking.
