I HAVE been feeling very uneasy since my son was robbed a few days ago of his expensive smartphone while he was walking towards his car after his exam ended at 8pm. My son’s college is in Kuala Lumpur. He parked his car a fair distance away from the college as it is difficult to find parking spots on campus. As he was walking towards his car, he noticed a grey Proton Wira being driven slowly alongside him to his right. The driver, a man in his 40s, rolled down the window on the passenger side and asked my son if he could borrow his phone. He told my son there was an emergency and he needed to call his mother but his own phone was not working.
My son told him to wait because the phone was in his backpack and he couldn’t get it immediately. The man followed my son until he reached his car, put his bag in the back seat, searched for his phone and handed it to him. The man started to press some buttons but then quickly drove off. Only then did my son realise that he had been robbed. He tried to chase the driver to get back his phone as all the notes for his next day’s exam were in it.
