J. L. GOH of Johor Baru has glowing praise for his local government hospital, Hospital Sultanah Aminah “Government hospital was better” (The Star, Feb 10). Goh’s is not the first letter saluting government hospitals. But we all know that with the current budget cuts, not everything is hunky-dory.

Why are some hospitals vilified while others are praised no end? I would like to use a common disease affecting one in two men and one in three women to answer this question.
