IT’S time that the United Nations made major reforms within in order to remain relevant in the years ahead and at the world stage as many have started to see it losing credibility in protecting human rights and maintaining world peace.
The UN is an intergovernmental organisation created way back on Oct 24, 1945, with the aim of promoting international cooperation and replacing the ineffective League of Nations which failed to stop the atrocities of World War II from 1939 until 1945. At its inception, the UN had 51 member states; now there are 193 member states. Its main objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.
