Put nature back in our kids

WHEN I was growing up in the 50s and 60s in Malacca, I spent most of my free time on activities outside the house. I climbed rambutan trees, hiked up Bukit Cina almost every day, camped at Port Dickson during the school holidays and trekked up Mount Ophir (now Gunung Puteri Ledang).

These days, childhood activities have largely moved indoors especially to shopping malls, cinemas and indoor theme parks. At home, people are immersed in their mobile phones, tablets, laptops and computers.
