Ensure CCTV in perfect working order

I REFER to the report “Cops tried to cover up death” (The Star, April 29). It is heart-wrenching to read of the inhumane treatment Dharmendran went through while in police custody. As an ordinary senior citizen, I may not know or understand the severity of the crime he committed but I know that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Surely there must be more humane ways that could have been used to get him to tell the truth.

I can imagine the pain that was inflicted on him by the five police personnel. Could anyone have survived that? Something must be done to specify how a suspect can be treated when in custody to prevent such tragic deaths in future.
