IT is quite disconcerting to read the Attorney-General’s revelation of the emotional mettle of judges. He said judges are human and are susceptible to external influences such as media coverage of cases and the presence of threatening members of the public, especially those who stare at them.
If this is true, then we have a serious problem with our judicial system. Judges form the backbone of our judicial system and their integrity and impartiality would reflect on the maturity, resilience and resolve of the bench to mete out justice. Except for a few, our judges are men and women of honour, impartial and impeccable in their judgments.
