THE fatal incident that killed a woman who was using her mobile phone while it was charging is a wake-up call to control the sale of such devices. Those telephone devices that require connections to electrical power points must be approved by Sirim or other internationally-approved laboratories and must carry the international standards’ approval labels before they are allowed to be sold.
Currently, all electrical products must have the Suruhanjaya Tenaga approval regardless of whether they are approved by Sirim or any other safety standards accredited by Sirim before they are allowed to be sold. We hope the sale of telephone devices which require electrical connections will be strictly controlled to ensure the safety of the users.
