Politicians should make their tax returns public


AMID calls for transparency over politicians’ personal finances, here’s a challenge to the YBs on both sides of the political divide: Declare openly your income tax returns.

This is in view of the growing suspicion among the rakyat that some politicians are not paying their fair share of tax based on their total income. Some may have under-declared their total income, particularly those who are living beyond their means. The general sentiment, rightly or wrongly, is that politicians pay a measly sum despite earning a lot from multiple sources of income.
