Aedes and construction sites

IT was reported recently that there was a 50% increase in deaths caused by dengue and an 11.2% increase in dengue cases in 2015 compared to 2014. This is surely cause for alarm but other than talking about possible actions, no significant measures are being taken by the relevant authorities to curb the outbreak of dengue.

The Health Ministry’s head of Disease Control has actually placed the blame on poor community behaviour whereas the president of the Malaysian Medical Association said that the main breeding areas for Aedes mosquitoes were construction sites and places with lots of debris and litter.
