A complex matter of reference

A REFERENCE is a statement to a new employer by the former employer relating to the employee involved. It can be provided at the request of the new employer or former employer, or even voluntarily by the new employee.

As a result of such a statement from the former employer to the new employer, the new employee may not necessarily be accepted by the new employer. If the employee is already accepted on probation, he or she may be asked to leave or be denied confirmation.
