BUCHAREST (Reuters) - One of Romania's ruling parties has vowed to block proposals that would increase the immunity of members of parliament from corruption charges, as the European Union presses Bucharest to rein in graft and organised crime.
Brussels has had Romania's justice system under special monitoring since it joined the EU in 2007. The country has taken some steps against corruption, including jailing former prime minister Adrian Nastase, but critics say the new proposals risk undermining the effort and scaring off investment.
