Vetting of TV shows done by agencies
THE vetting of television programmes aired by RTM and private television stations are managed separately by different agencies, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.
Deputy Information, Communications, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said RTM had its own panel which ensured that all shows aired by its two channels adhered to its broadcasting code of ethics with regards to dressing, performance and presentation.
“The RTM panel reserves the right to reject the programmes and request a re-shoot even if they had earlier been approved by the Malaysian Film Censorship Board,” he told Datuk Abdul Manan Ismail (BN – Paya Besar).
Salang said contents aired by private television stations were controlled by the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and vetted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
“Private broadcasting stations are also required to provide programmes which promote local content that include local and national cultures,” he added.
