Terengganu may stop sending students to Indonesia
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government may stop sending students to pursue medical studies in Indonesia for safety reasons following an earthquake in Padang.
State Education, Higher Learning, Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee Chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said as an alternative, it was considering sending the students to Poland or Hungary.
“Whatever we decide, it will be in the best interest of the students,“ he told reporters at the 1Malaysia Smart Enhancement Programme at Kampung Baru Seberang Takir here yesterday.
He said Terengganu sponsored 65 medical students in 10 universities in the republic.
One of them, who is studying at Andalas University in Padang, escaped unhurt in the earthquake.
Ahmad Razif said Terengganu Foundation officers would visit Padang next week to look into the safety aspect of its students there.
He said the state government would send 50 medical students each to Egypt and Russia next year. — Bernama
