No plans for MCA-DAP talks
TAPAH: There will not be talks between MCA and DAP just because Umno and PAS have started a dialogue, said MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.
He said if that a stand was adopted, it would lead to distrust among the Barisan Nasional component parties.
We cannot talk with the DAP just because one party is having talks with another party, he told reporters yesterday after opening Tapah MCA divisions annual general meeting.
Ong, who is division chief, said what was important in Barisan Nasional was discussions among the various component parties rather than talks with opposition parties.
On former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad statement that Umno should not leave out its Barisan partners when making deals with PAS, Ong said the MCA had no problems with Umno having talks with PAS.
If (Umno) wants to involve us (in the talks) it is fine with us. If (Umno) does not involve us (in the talks), it is also all right with us.
If (Umno) wants to brief us later, it is also fine with us. It is not a problem.
Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye said PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mats proposal that Umno and PAS merge showed the inconsistent stand of the partys top leaders, from calls to cease all talks to proposing a merger.
I foresee a power struggle and difference of opinions among PAS, he said in George Town.
