Give Indians more PSD scholarships, urges Samy
PETALING JAYA: MIC wants the Government to provide more Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships for Indian students to pursue their studies abroad.
Party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said only 34 Indians were offered the scholarships this year despite some securing 12As in their 2007 SPM examinations.
The party has compiled a list of 194 appeal cases, he said.
I have asked Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam to bring up the cases in the next Cabinet meeting.
Some of the parents are from a poor background, so let us not dash their childrens dreams, he said in a statement released yesterday.
Samy Vellu said PSD should set a minimum requirement similar to that of the matriculation courses in selected universities and Form Six in fully aided schools, where PSD scholarships would be offered to all students who scored 9As in their SPM examination.
