MB: Cut government spending

Dr Khir ... ‘No more departmental events at luxury hotels’ |
“Departmental activities and events must be held only in Selangor and cannot be held in luxury hotels,” said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo.
He added that all activities must be held at the respective departments if the need to stay overnight did not arise.
A common weakness highlighted in audit reports on the administration of state funds was mismanagement, Dr Mohd Khir said in his speech at the state government employees’ monthly assembly on Monday.
He said the state’s financial losses were largely due to dishonesty, expenditure that exceeded allocation and purchases made without following the correct procedures.
Dr Mohd Khir said the state’s image would be tarnished if such weaknesses were not quickly rectified.
“To strengthen financial accountability, it is our collective duty to ensure that every sen collected from the public is spent judiciously, economically, expertly and effectively without wastage.”
He added that the state government had allocated RM1.2bil this year for management and development expenditure.
“This budget has already been distributed to 27 relevant departments,” he said.
