Roselinda: ‘Our intention is to serve the people’
KLANG: A non-issue. That is how Klang Umno Puteri chief Roselinda Abdul Jamil views the uproar by residents against her appointment as municipal councillor along with her father-in-law and brother-in-law.

“I do not see anything wrong as the three of us were appointed councillors in our different capacities,” said Roselinda, the daughter-in-law of Port Klang assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Mat Deros.

“If you take it negatively, it will be negative. If you take it positively, it will be positive. Our intention is to serve the people.”

Roselinda, Zakaria and his son Zainuri have been named councillors of the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) for the coming two-year term. However, the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for today, has been postponed.

Asked if she was disappointed, Roselinda replied: “Why should I? There is no rush at all.”

Roselinda said her appointment as councillor was in her capacity as the Umno Puteri chief of Klang, while Zakaria was Klang Umno division chief, and Zainuri acting head of Klang Umno Youth.

Attempts to reach Zakaria on his handphone since last week failed.

Meanwhile, the last-minute postponement of the MPK swearing-in ceremony came as a shock to many councillors.

“I was at the council at 9am with MPK president Abdul Bakir Zin and a few other senior officers. They told me everything was going ahead as planned and I should get my suit ready,” said Klang MCA chief Datuk Teh Kim Poo.

“A few hours later, I received a call saying the ceremony had been postponed, and no reason given.”
