Single-digit TAN number plate for RM200,000
MALACCA: RM200,000 that was the amount a person was willing to pay for a single-digit number plate with the letters TAN.
It was also the highest amount ever paid for a number plate.
Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Emran Kadir said the highest bid received for a number plate before this was RM166,000 for one with the letters JJJ.
Emran said the TAN number plate went to a person who was not from Terengganu. He refused to reveal the identity of the bidder but confirmed that the person had the surname Tan.
He was speaking to reporters after giving out 500 free reflective jackets to motorists at Bandaraya Mall in Ayer Keroh here yesterday.
Emran said the persons bid was also the highest for the TAN series of number plates. The second highest bid came in at a distant RM50,000.
Emran said JPJ earned a total of RM104mil from bids for car plate numbers last year. In 2004, it received RM80mil.
