Police net RM47mil in fines
KUALA LUMPUR: Police collected RM47,010,656 in fines despite a 50% discount on traffic summonses from Sept 1 until Wednesday.
Federal traffic chief Datuk Gingkoi Seman Pancras said defaulters settled 689,166 summonses during the period.
Selangor police collected the most fines since Sept 1 with RM8.9mil, followed by Johor with RM8.6mil and Kuala Lumpur, RM5mil.
Gingkoi said the discount offer, set to end yesterday, has been extended to Sept 30.
Gingkoi said that all payment counters at district traffic police headquarters will open from 8am to 10pm, starting today.
He said the public could also pay the fines from 2pm until 10pm at the 1 Utama shopping centre in Bandar Utama, The Mines in Serdang, IOI Mall in Puchong, Prangin Mall in Penang and Plaza Karamunsing in Sabah, and at police counters on the North-South Expressway rest stops at Tapah (Perak), Ulu Bernam (Selangor) and at the Air Keroh elevated restaurant (Malacca).
He said that between Jan 1 and Wednesday, 2.7 million traffic summonses had been settled and RM229mil paid up.
There is still an outstanding 3.4 million summonses not paid.
The public can check the status of their summonses through the Celcom SMS, said Gingkoi.
To check, key in the word SAMAN followed by the vehicle, identity card number or business registration number and send it to 32232.
