CEO ‘had guts to turn Proton into carmaker’
TENGKU Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff had guts and changed Proton from an assembler to a carmaker, according to Malaysian Automotive Association president Datuk Aishah Ahmad.
“We felt that Tengku Mahaleel had done a good job during his tenure by introducing Proton’s own in-house designed and developed models such as Waja, Gen.2 and Savvy.
“He had guts and dared to break out of the mould by turning Proton from an assembler of re-badged Japanese and French cars into a full-fledged automotive maker in its own right,” she said when told of the Proton Holdings Bhd board’s decision not to renew his tenure as its chief executive officer.
Aishah said the decision of the Proton Holdings board was entirely theirs.
