Bus and taxi fares to go up

PUTRAJAYA: The Government has agreed to increase bus and taxi fares.
The new rates are expected to be effective by May 1.
Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development Minister Datuk Khaled Nordin said for taxis the new rate would be RM2 for the first kilometre and 10 sen for every subsequent 150m.
The existing rate is RM2 for the first two kilometres and 10 sen for every subsequent 200m.
Fares for non air-conditioned express buses will go up by 0.9 sen for every kilometre, from 4.6 sen to 5.5 sen, and those for air-conditioned express buses by one sen for every kilometre, from 5.5 sen to 6.5sen.
For non-air conditioned stage buses the approved new rate is 48 sen for the first two kilometres and 7.2 sen for every subsequent kilometre, an increase of eight sen and 1.2 sen respectively.
The new rate for air-conditioned stage buses is 72 sen for the first two kilometres and 7.5 sen for every subsequent kilometre, an increase of 12 sen and 1.5 sen respectively.
In making the announcement at his ministry on Thursday, Khaled said the new rates would only be effective after being gazetted.
He expected them to be implemented by May 1.
