Chinese women re-enact incident at police station
PETALING JAYA: Three of the four Chinese women alleged to have been mistreated by police here returned to the district police headquarters to re-enact the incident.
Yu Xuezhen, Gu Xiuhua and Wu Xiaohua, accompanied by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and lawyer Sankara N. Nair, arrived at the police station at 9.45am yesterday.
A seven-member task force from the Selangor police, six of whom are Mandarin-speaking officers, was set up to probe the allegation.
The team, headed by Deputy Supt Ten Kok Chew, also recorded a second statement from the women individually during the nine hours they spent at the police station.
Kok said police wanted to further investigate the case and called the women to record another statement.
“They want to know every detail of the incident, including the process of the women being detained and places where they were taken to for questioning, as well as their being asked to strip for a check,” she said.
She also said that only three of the women turned up to give statements because the fourth – Liu Jing – could not be contacted.
Nair said the women were not satisfied with their earlier statements as they were worried at that time, and were not sure of what to say.
“Today, I think the police have conducted their investigations professionally,” said Nair.
He added that Gu's Malaysian husband also gave a statement yesterday.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah declined to comment.
