News Update by The Star News Desk
KOTA KINABALU: One of the 10 military personnel on board a missing Royal Malaysian Air Force Nuri helicopter in the highlands of Sarawak has been airlifted to safety.
The soldier, who has minor injuries, was winched up from the Nuri helicopter at about 12.15pm on Monday and has been taken to Miri.
Bad weather is said to be hampering rescue work.
The fate of the nine others on board the helicopter is still unknown.
Aviation sources said the helicopter was found in mountainous terrain 15km west of Ba'Kelalan at 9.15am Monday.
Radio contact was established with the Labuan RMAF base on Sunday which allowed the search and rescue team to be at the scene immediately in the morning.
The helicopter's passengers comprised five RMAF crewmen and five soldiers from the 20th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.
