Coffin found abandoned in Port Dickson

A COFFIN was found abandoned at Km12.8 of Jalan Sua Betong in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, Tamil Nesan reported yesterday.

The daily said news of the abandoned coffin spread like wildfire among residents in Port Dickson.

Committee members of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple lodged a police report over the discovery as the coffin was found near the temple’s burial ground.

The daily reported that police found a piece of white cloth and two pillows in the coffin and that there were stains on the cloth, which was swarming with flies.

It added that police were investigating the matter.

Temple chairman R. Balakrishnan said the committee had no record of anyone obtaining permission to bury or cremate bodies there.

The daily highlighted that former estate workers in Batu Gajah in Perak created history by getting together at an event at Shah Alam recently.

It said former workers of Kinta Kelas Estate who migrated to various parts of the country met and renewed their friendship after a long interval.

It added that they left the estate after it was taken up for development several years ago and many were yearning to see each other again as they were born, bred and educated in the area. The daily also reported Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk G. Palanivel as saying that Indian-based women's organisations would receive an annual allocation of RM500,000 for their activities.

The daily said the fund would be used to hold events that would benefit women, particularly single mothers and widows who were facing financial difficulties.

Palanivel added that he would meet Wanita MIC soon to brief them on the matter and how the ministry could help in their social activities.
