AirAsia to fly to Jakarta daily

Update from The Star News Desk
By Olivia Lee

SEPANG: AirAsia will fly to Jakarta daily from Kuala Lumpur International Airport effective July 1.

Its chief executive officer Tony Fernandes said the direct flight from KLIA had long been in planning since the budget airline received great response from the Johor Baru - Jakarta flight that commenced on April 10 this year.

"We have been experiencing healthy loads from our Indonesian flights and many have benefitted from our low fares.

"It gives me great pleasure to improve our frequencies to serve the needs of the market," he said in a press conference at KLIA here Monday. Costing from RM99.99, the KLIA - Jakarta service is the fifth international destination that departs from KLIA for the no frills airline with Bangkok, Phuket, Surabaya and Bandung being the other four destinations.

Fernandes said the no frills airline would increase frequencies to Tawau and Bangkok also from July 1 to cater to the "hugely popular" routes.

"Both KL - Bangkok and KL - Tawau has been one of our most popular routes, with passenger load averaging between 80% to 85% since we started. "Tawau in particular, holds a very special place in our hearts, as AirAsia is the first and only airline which serves that route with a direct, non-stop service," he said.
