Cupid needs more single men

PETALING JAYA: Single men are encouraged to take part in Wanita MCA’s Cupid Space programme to meet prospective spouses or new friends as there is not enough male participation in the activities, programme chairman Chew Mei Fun said.

“One of the problems we encounter is that there are not enough men signing up for the programme.

“About 69% of the participants are women and this results in an imbalanced database,” she said at a press conference yesterday.

When asked why men had shied away from this programme, she said that from the feedback received, some stated that they were “too lazy” to register with the programme because of certain requirements, such as a letter from the Commissioner for Oaths declaring that they are single.

“Some men want to sign up without having to do this.”

This year, she said, participants could use the computerised matching service to meet prospective partners.

“The service will assist singles to find partners according to age, education, religion or other criteria set by the person using the service,” Chew said.

She said that among other activities lined-up were tours, dinners and a Valentine Special seminar to be held on Feb 14.

“Since the Cupid Space’s inception, about 5% of the 5,000 have tied the knot but the figure may be higher as some couples do not report their latest development,” she said.

Chew also advised the public to be wary of e-mail sent to them from addresses such as mca@yahoo.com, cupidmca@ yahoo.com and cktan_2@yahoo. com.

“We want to clarify that e-mail from these addresses do not represent Wanita MCA,” she said.

She said participants could contact the programme centre at 03-7726 2266 or headquarters at 03-2161 8044 or visit their website at http://www. mca.org.my for registration forms and further information.
