Works Ministry report to determine consultant’s fate
KEPALA BATAS: The fate of consultant firm, Project Management Consultant (PMC), which was taken to task for constructing 16 schools and five colleges with serious structural defects, will depend on a report by the Works Ministry.
The Government has discussed PMC's role, and many panellists in the discussion expressed dissatisfaction with several of its projects.
So, the Cabinet decided that the Public Works Department be made to supervise infrastructure projects, instead of PMC.
We will wait for a complete report by (Works Minister) Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu with regard to the role of the PMC, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told reporters at his Hari Raya open house at Dewan Milenium yesterday.
He added that PMC would be allowed to continue with its ongoing projects, as it was not conducive to change the developer halfway through a project.
Samy Vellu recently said that all 21 affected buildings were constructed by PMC, which was appointed by the Finance Ministry. One school building may have to be demolished and rebuilt.
On the tussle between Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary and Tan Sri S.M. Nasimuddin S.M. Amin for a stake in DRB-HICOM Bhd, Abdullah said the Treasury was handling the matter.
I am not commenting on this at the moment. The Treasury is looking into it. As soon as it is resolved, we will announce it, he said.
