More learning thanks to OUM
OPEN University Malaysia's (OUM) concept of distance and online learning has enabled more people, especially those in the working sector, to further their studies, said Information Minister Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob.
He added that this is in line with the Government's vision to produce knowledgeable Malaysians.
OUM has given the assurance that dreams can become a reality. Those who never thought that they would have the chance to further their studies can now do so without leaving their jobs, he said at OUM's recent Media Appre-
ciation Night.
Khalil said rapid changes in technology and the production of sophisticated learning tools have made it easier for people to gain new knowledge.
OUM president Tan Sri Dr Abdullah Sanusi Ahmad said student enrolment has risen to 16,000, from 6,000 last year.
The seventh private university in the country, OUM was established in August 2000. It offers 13 programmes, ranging from diploma to graduate studies, including six programmes for non-graduate teachers.
At the function, OUM presented a generous contribution of RM7,000 to the Information Ministry's Puspanita patron, Puan Sri Zurina Kassim.
