Heady mix of glamour and good jazz music
KUALA LUMPUR: The Philips International Jazz Festival reception held at the home of Philips Malaysia chief executive officer R. Kumar in Bangsar was a heady mix of glamour and good music.
Intended as a welcome for those performing at the festival, the reception held on Thursday turned out to be a social event that saw many VIP guests mingling with the artistes.
The artistes also gave a preview of their performance during the reception.
Among the artistes present were Malaysian singer Camelia, Indonesia's Anggun, members of Indian jazz-fusion band Silk, Australian vocal group Idea of North and Indonesia ethnic jazz group Krakatau.
Kumar said it was encouraging to know that the group of artistes, comprising both local and international singers, were eager to participate in the festival.
This years show the fourth staged to date will see 10 performances over a seven-hour session.
It begins at 4pm today at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort.
Winners of the recent Philips School Jazz Band Awards will also be featured.
Tickets, priced at RM40, are available at the event venue.
Ticket sales will also serve a charitable purpose with Philips Malaysia confirming a RM100,000 contibution to Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia, whose patron is the Prime Ministers wife Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood.
The funds will be used for cancer research at Putrajaya Hospitals Cancer Unit.
