Mitsubishi Motors chairman dies at 62
TOKYO (AP) - Takashi Sonobe, chairman of Mitsubishi Motors Corp., has died of heart failure, the company said Wednesday.
He was 62.
Sonobe was recently discharged from a hospital where he had been treated for an undisclosed illness, according to a company official.
But his condition worsened Tuesday, and he died that evening, said the official, who declined to be named.
Sonobe became chairman of the board of Japan's No. 4 automaker in June 2002.
In 2000, he had taken over as president after his predecessor resigned in disgrace to take responsibility for a defect cover-up scandal.
Details on funeral services and Sonobe's survivors were not immediately available. - AP
