NEW DELHI: India's appointment of a female defence minister as part of a Cabinet reshuffle on Sunday is being hailed as a "bold" move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.
Nirmala Sitharaman, who earlier served as a junior commerce minister, becomes the second woman defence minister in the country's history since Indira Gandhi, who held the key portfolio while being prime minister in the 1970s and 80s.
