Raffles Place robber gets 12 years and 24 strokes

SINGAPORE: A 39-year-old Indone­sian man was sentenced to 12 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane for a brazen and violent robbery that shocked a lunchtime crowd in the centre of the financial district more than a year ago.

Arun, who goes by one name, was detained by several passers-by after stabbing Kang Tie Tie, a courier for moneychangers, outside the Raffles Place MRT station before making off with his bag containing nearly S$800,000 (RM2.4mil).
