IN his book Superintelligence, published last year, Oxford philosophy professor Nick Bostrom argues that if machine brains surpass human brains in general intelligence, this new “superintelligence” could replace us as the dominant life form on Earth.
How is that possible? The author believes that intelligence machines could outstrip human computer scientists in improving their own capabilities. It seems that the future fate of humanity could depend on the actions of machine superintelligence.
