JOHOR BARU: An online trader lost RM6,000 when a female customer scammed him and ran off with two mobile phones.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 27-year-old victim received a text message from the suspect at around 12.20am on Thursday (July 25).

He said the suspect expressed interested in buying two Samsung S10 mobile phones from the victim, adding that the suspect agreed to pay RM3,000 for each phone.

ACP Dzulkhairi said in a statement on Friday (July 26) that the victim then received a text message at 8.47pm from the suspect, who told him to meet her at a private hospital in Taman Bukit Indah.

He said the victim, accompanied by his brother, met the suspect approximately two hours later.

ACP Dzulkhairi added that the victim saw the suspect parking her car far from the hospital’s main entrance and walking towards them.

“The suspect wanted to check the mobile phones, and the victim obliged. She then told him that she wanted to take the money from her car.

"He followed the suspect, and she entered her gold and silver coloured Toyota Corolla and  immediately sped off,” he said.

ACP Dzulkhairi said the victim’s brother saw three men in the car together with the suspect and added that they could not catch them as their own car was parked inside the hospital's compound.

He said police were investigating the case under Section 379 of the Penal Code and urged those with any information to call 07-2212999 or lodge a report at the nearest police station.
