KUANTAN (Bernama): Having lost her husband, Siti Zaleha Abd Rashid faced another test when her daughter and two grandchildren died in a fire at Kampung Sungai Isap 2 here.

Siti Zaleha Abd Rashid, 60, said her husband Syed Kassim Syed Alwi, 61, died at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (TAAH) here, five days ago due to stroke.

"Who would have thought that in a week, I would be back at TAAH...but today is more heart-wrenching because three family members left simultaneously while my son-in-law is still receiving treatment here.

"We got together four days ago at the tahlil ceremony for my late husband and my daughter was excited as 10 of her siblings were there,” she told reporters at the TAAH Forensic Unit here Sunday (July 21).

In the 7.45am incident, her daughter, Sharifah Azlina Syed Kassim, 37, and her grandchildren Muhamad Haikal Hakimi Hairol, 11, and Muhamad Adam Daniel, 7, died after they were trapped when their house was on fire.

The fire was believed to have started in the middle of the victim's rented house, also causing Sharifah Azlina's husband, Hairol Khalid, 38, younger brother, Syed Azman, 25, and his wife, Norazilah Abdullah, 23, to be severely hurt.

Norazilah's younger sister, Nor Syawalina Abdullah, 19, suffered minor injuries.

Siti Zaleha said the three bodies would be buried at Felda Cemetery, Chini 4, Pekan near here, possibly on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, Nor Syawalina said she only realised the house was on fire when she heard some noise, and left the house through the back door.

"I did not get to see Haikal and Adam because the fire had spread, and I think they were still sleeping during the incident because their bodies were found in the room," she said. - Bernama
