MELAKA: Former Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron has criticised his successor Adly Zahari for allegedly taking Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad “for a ride”.

In a Facebook post Tuesday (June 11), Idris claimed Adly had not revealed the truth that the Smart Industry Centre (SIC) was a brainchild of Barisan Nasional's government and mooted in August 2017.

He alleged the current state government had plagiarised the idea and claimed to be its own, going to the extent of inviting Dr Mahathir to launch the SIC without shame.

“I pity Dr Mahathir after he was 'cheated' by the current leadership who had hid the truth from him,” Idris said in his posting.

Idris also posted a picture of him signing a plaque in 2017 to symbolise the start of the SIC here.

When contacted, Idris said majority of Melakans know that the current state government had not hatched its own ideas to bring in development or prosperity to the state.

“They depended on what we had done before, including copying our blueprints and passing it as their own.

“Locals know that the current leadership is growing more arrogant by the day,” he claimed.

On Monday (June 10), Dr Mahathir launched the SIC at the Bukit Rambai Industrial Park here.
