21 passengers and Semporna boat operators get summons

Safety first: Marine policemen checking a tourist boat plying waters off Sabah’s popular diving haven of Semporna as efforts to ensure safety of passengers during the Hari Raya and school holiday season.

KOTA KINABALU: Marine police summoned 21 tourists and passenger boat operators during safety enforcement operations in Sabah’s diving haven of Semporna during the school holidays and ahead of Hari Raya.

Sabah Marine Police Region 4 commander Asst Comm Pajeri Ali said these boat operators were found to be ferrying more passengers than allowed under their licences or did not have enough life jackets and other equipment required.
