PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustaffa Billah Shah has thanked Malaysians for their support since the passing of his father, Pahang’s Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’adzam Shah.

"It has been a tough few days for us as a family. We could not have gone through this without the love, support and kindness showed by our family, friends, people of Pahang and all Malaysians. For this and more, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

"We have lost an incredible human being but more importantly, we lost our beloved father and the people lost a truly incredible Sultan.

"Indeed, we are thankful to Allah for blessing us with a humble leader that we have all been inspired by his love and grace towards the people of Pahang and Malaysia.

"We will carry on with his legacy and humanity as we remember KDYMM Paduka Ayahanda Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah. Our father remains in our hearts forever - Al Fatihah", the post on the Istana Negara's Instagram account read on Saturday (May 25).

Sultan Ahmad Shah reigned as the fifth Sultan of Pahang for almost 45 years before his eldest son, Sultan Abdullah, was announced as his successor on Jan 12.

He died at the age of 88 at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur at 8.50am on Wednesday (May 22).

Sultan Ahmad Shah was laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum in Pahang on Thursday (May 23).
