IPOH: Pasir Panjang assemblyman, Yahaya Mat Nor (left), has demanded an apology over an article in a website alleging his special officer of controlling all government projects in the district.

Yahaya said the website nthqibord.com and the author would be given three days to retract the allegations in the article and to publish an apology on its website and in local newspapers.

He said the article was defamatory and affected his reputation.

“If I do not receive any offer of apology from the said writer and the operator of the website concerned within the designated period, I will take legal action against them.

“I support the principle of free speech, but it must not be used as a tool to spread defamation and lies hiding behind a cyber veil,” he said in a statement on Thursday (May 23).

“I have also reported the matter to the police for action in accordance with cyber crime laws,” he added.

The website was reported to have quoted a source that Yahaya’s special officer had acted like a middleman and that those wanting projects would have to go through him, causing dissatisfaction among civil servants in the district.
