WORLD Health Day, marked each year on April 7, celebrates the right to health. This year’s theme is universal health coverage (UHC), which UN member states have agreed to work towards achieving by 2030, as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Universal health coverage, as defined by the World Health Organization, means that all individuals and communities receive the health services they need without suffering financial hardship. It is measured by the part of a population that is able to access essential quality health services, and the proportion of a population that spends a large amount of household income on health.
