CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Judges are free to attend functions but they should be careful not to do anything that could invite controversy, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
The Rembau MP also said people should not be out to touch and say that dancing is not allowed.
"We at Umno also have dance events and such. It's fine, just as long as it is not done over-zealously," he told reporters after having lunch with orang asli at Kampung Sungai Ruil here on Sunday (Jan 20).
Khairy was asked to comment on the video where Attorney General Tommy Thomas, Chief Justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong were seen dancing during a gala dinner in Sabah on Jan 18.
He said Pakatan Harapan had criticised Barisan Nasional before when former AG Tan Sri Apandi Ali was seen dancing with Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and former communications and multimedia minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak.
"It was during a Merdeka celebration – not even an official function.
"He was about to leave and the music came on so he just danced spontaneously with Azalina and Salleh," he said.
"When the photograph and video came out, we were attacked, with certain people saying that it was inappropriate and even said there was no separation of powers.
"It's not a problem to be at the function but they should avoid doing things that could attract negative speculation," he said.
